Kochi Metro, a true pathfinder to success

As a child, you might have grown fancying the magic carpet of Aladdin, which could take its master to the destinations he wishes, in the twinkling of an eye! How thrilling it would be if the tale is going to be true? Gear Up Kochinites!! The Kochi Metro Rail is going to make it happen. The prospective Metro Rail service will be operated without a loco pilot.

The driverless train will take you to your destinations without fail. The authorities have decided to launch the Communication-Based Train Control Technology or CBTC for the prestigious Kochi Metro Rail Project. With the introduction of CBTC in Kochi, the frequency of the trains can be scheduled at the most in 90 seconds as the ridership increases.

What is CBCT?

The Communication-Based Train Control technology operates through the communication between the train and equipment on the track for managing traffic. It helps identify the exact position of a train more accurately than traditional methods which depend on signal systems. The CBTC is going to be a radical move in the nation’s rail transport by displacing the presence of the loco pilot in the train. It ensures efficiency and safety of the metro in a truly international style.

How it works.

Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) network is an automated control network for railways. It ensures the safe operation of rail vehicles using data communications .CBTC is based on two important technologies that marked profoundly the development of our society in the last century: railways and communication technologies. It is a modern successor of traditional railway signalling systems that provide a limited control using track circuits, interlockings and signals.

The CBTC is not new to the inhabitants of Metropolitan cities around the world. In the venture of bringing home a highly modern and contemporary electric rail service connecting the chief areas of the district, the authorities have maintained an up to date supply of reliable technologies.

Some Tech-Facts

In most CBTC networks, data between trains and trackside equipments are transferred using wireless communication networks, such as global system for mobile communications-railway (GSM-R) and wireless local area network (WLAN). For urban mass transit systems, WLAN is a better choice due to the available commercial-off-the-shelf equipments. WLAN-based CBTC has been deployed in many real systems, such as New York City, Canarsie Line, Beijing Metro Line 10 from Siemens and Las Vegas Monorail from Alcatel.

 Make a wish!!

Hence, its time you close your eyes and make a wish while the Kochi Metro appears on your horizon. This smart system is a great way to remember how technically advanced we are. India proves that she is in no way inferior to any country in terms of its infrastructure.

Gone are the days you lose your time caught up in the reckless traffic of the city. The business capital of Kerala will soon be in the lime light being the second Metro Rail service in the country to use CBTC system after the L&TMetro Rail service, Hyderabad.
Life is so wonderful that unlocking its surprises is as simple as turning the door knob. Are you getting excited about knowing what is driving your city with the fast pace of the world? Keep yourself updated with us in this happy journey.
