The Indian Green Building council (IGBC) jointly with Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) would conduct Kochi Metro Greenathon, as an extended programme of the Green Building week, in association with various organizations in and around Kochi. The Greenathon will be held on Sunday the 6th of October in Eranakulam along the metro route.
World Green Building Council has been celebrating World Green Building week in 95 Countries all around the world. The Indian Green Building Council, Cochin has been also celebrating for the last 3 years.
The Greenathon will have two parts – cycle rally and walkathon. There will be two streams of Cycle Rallies, one commencing from the first Metro Station at Aluva and the second stream commencing from Petta. Both these rallies would commence at 7.00 am and would converge at Jawahar Lal Nehru International Stadium. Various organizations including Indian Navy, Cochin Bikers Club etc would be participating in the Cycle rally.
The walkers will start from Durbar Hall Ground from one end and the other from Edappally junction. These two groups would again converge at JLN Stadium. The walkathon also would commence exactly at 7.00 am from both ends.
The concluding ceremony will be held at the converging point of the Cycle rally and the walkathon at the Nehru International Stadium at 8.30 am. Prominent personalities like Ministers, MLAs, senior officials and celebrities will take part in the event.
There will be prizes for best-dressed team (Costume Competition) and largest team participating in the Greenathon
Various organizations like Rotary International, Lions club International, CII, Young India, Indian Institute of Architects, Indian Institute of Interior Designers, Kerala Management Association, CBSE school Association, EDRAC, BAI, Kerala Chamber of Commerce etc. is also associating with the Greenathon.
Indian Green Building council has completed the process of conducting painting competitions through the Directorate of Public Instructions Govt. of Kerala. Several schools in the state have conducted the painting competitions in their own campuses on the theme “Boomikku Chernna Oru Veedu”. About 5000 children from around 50 schools have participated in this competition from different parts of Kerala. The competition was held in three categories; 5th Standard to 8th Standard, 9th and 10th Standard and Plus one along with Plus two. The selected entries of the painting competition have been judged by a committee of Eminent Artists consisting of Mr.Kaladharan, Miss Bindhi Rajagopal and programme convener Deepa Ganesh. Apart from the prize money, donated by Solar Plus Power Solution of Rs. 10.000/- , Rs.6000.00/- and Rs.4000/- .for 1st prize, 2nd prize, and 3rd prize winners in each categories , the first Prize winners will also win a sports Bike , sponsored by T I Cycle of India .
IGBC, as a part of World Green Building week also conducted debate Competition for college children, which was held on 12th September 2013 at Cochin. 26 student participated and made excellent presentations for and against the subject” Cost of Greening the world- who should bear the cost, Developed or developing Countries?” The winners of this competition will also be given prizes of Rs. 10,000/-, Rs. 5,000/- , Rs 3000/- each.
Prizes for the painting competition and debate competition as well as for various competitions proposed for the Greenathon will also be given away at the concluding Ceremony at Nehru International stadium.
