The Government has decided to give Kochi Metro Rail Limited an approval for direct purchase of land for the project after approval of the rates by the DLPC and SLEC on the lines of a G.O.Land acquisition has run into a hitch on account of the promulgation of the new Act without the corresponding rules, procedures and forms being made.
In respect of the balance 8.822 hectares of land to be acquired for the project, 5.696 hectares can be bought with the consent of the land owners by the means of this order. This was decided in a high level review meeting headed by Chief Minister Sri. Oommen Chandy and attended by other ministers like Sri. Aryadan Muhammed, Sri. Adoor Prakash, DMRC Principal Advisor E. Sreedharan, KMRL MD Shri. Elias George, functional directors of KMRL and other senior officials from various departments, Government of Kerala.
Rs. 70 crores will be made available for land acquisition immediately from PWD for the widening of the Vyttila-Petta reach which involves the acquisition of 3.0138 hectares. This will speed up of the work of Kochi Metro in this reach.
The meeting has asked Kerala Water Authority to complete pipe laying work through SA road on a crash-priority basis. It was decided in the meeting to finish all the work by the end of next month and handover that area to DMRC for work.
The meeting has also assigned KMRL MD Elias George to have discussions with St. Albert’s college authorities regarding the land acquisition required at Kaloor. An extent of 98 cents of land is required from the St. Albert’s College from the land leased to them for college’s football ground in front of the JLN Stadium, for the construction metro station. KMRL MD will have discussions with them to get the land available for work.
Issues like widening of Thammanam – Pullepady road, reconstruction of South RoB, construction of Pachalam RoB and Edappally fly over will be discussed further on a meeting to be held on 7th May 2014 in Trivandrum in the presence of Chief minister, other concerned ministers, Kochi Mayor, MLA’s in the metro route, local body heads and other officials.
