A Tripartite Co-ordination meeting with officials from KMRL, DMRC & Southern Railways was convened in KMRL office on 26th November 2014 and sorted out issues involved in start of metro work within railway premises at Ernakulam South. Mr. Sunil Bajpai, DRM / Trivandrum along with branch officials of Trivandrum Division & Sr. Officials from KMRL and DMRC had a very fruitful discussion. DRM has assured all support from Railways for speedy completion of metro work, provided safety of running train to be adequately addressed by the executing agency. According to DRM the metro work involves uses of heavy machineries, and equipment, and the work spots are very close to electrified Main line track. Hence, a detailed process and procedure including responsibility need to be finalized before start of work.
During the meeting it was decided to constitute a “work monitoring committee” consisting of officials from KMRL, DMRC & Railways which will be headed by Area Officer Ernakulum (South). The Committee shall meet frequently, inspected the site; take appropriate decision so that Metro work is progressed without jeopardizing safety of running trains. DRM has confirmed that permission has already granted to KMRL to replace existing signal cables, which are obstructing piling work of Metro. PD DMRC informed that piling work for Metro viaduct shall be started immediately on completion of shifting of Signal Cables. DRM has emphasized the need for least inconvenience to the railway passengers during and post construction. According to DRM, the Metro work can be started any time post submission of procedure and sequence of execution of work by DMRC. 18 Railway quarters, which are coming in the alignment of metro, shall be reconstructed by KMRL at Marshaling Yard for which tender shall be awarded by DMRC shortly. DRM also promised to look into the facilities proposed to be provided at Ernakulum South for integration of Metro station and railway station so that Metro facilities are fully utilized by Railway Commuters.
