As many as six banks and three AFC service providers participated in the pre- bid conference for Kochi UMTA smart card project helping KMRL in achieving its vision to implement a ticketing system which comprises of the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) solution and the EMV based contactless Smart Card system. This is the next step KMRL has taken to introduce a unified and inter-operable multi-modal transport ticketing system for Greater Kochi area, after signing MoU with NPCI (National Payment Corporation of India)
Banks like Canara Bank, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Federal Bank, South Indian Bank and IDBI participated along with AFC service providers like Thales, E –Kent and Indra. Through this bid, KMRL envisages to improve and enhance commuter experience and encourage more number of citizens to use public transportation facilities
The banks that participated in the pre bid meeting expressed their interest to associate with this unique project, which has the vision to extend the services of contactless smart card based ticketing system to City Buses, Metro feeder buses, boats & ferry services, City taxies etc.
