A two-member team from AFD (Agence Française de Développement), the French development agency funding Kochi Metro project is on a two-day visit in Kochi to evaluate the project and discuss the possible funding options for the extension plans up to Kakkanad. Ms. Priscille De Coninck (Project manager, Sustain
able and transport division AFD, Paris) and Ms. Juliette Le Pannerer (Project coordinator, AFD, Delhi) visited the metro corrodor including L&T casting yard near HMT Junction, depot at Muttom and CUSAT station work.
After the site visit, the team held discussions with MD and other senior officials of KMRL. KMRL and the AFD Mission had discussions on the extension plans and possible cooperation in water transport and urban place making projects. AFD team also discussed the Social and Environmental Impact assessment reports. The team expressed satisfaction regarding the progress of the project and also said that they are keen to associate with Kochi Metro project in all possible ways including the extension proposals.
The AFD team will visit the main integration point of different modes of traffic in Kochi, the Vyttila Mobility Hub tomorrow. They are also visiting the extension route, Kakkanad to understand the proposed alignment better.
