An appraisal mission from the funding agency of the German Government, Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) will visit Kochi from 4th to 8th August 2015 to do a final appraisal for KMRL’s `Integrated Water Transport Project for Kochi City’. This project envisages an expenditure of Rs.747 crore including components like procurement of boats, dredging of waterways, provision of jetties, development of access roads, as well as last-mile connectivity like bicycles and walkways. The mission will comprise Mr. Robert Valkovic, Principal Project Manager, Ms. Stephanie Rieger, Senior Project Manager & Mr. Peter Rooney, Technical Expert from KfW Headquarters, Frankfurt and Ms. Usha Rao, Senior Sector Specialist from KfW, Delhi office. This team will arrive at Kochi on 4th August and will have discussions with Mr. Elias George, MD, KMRL and other senior officials of KMRL regarding the components of the draft Project Report, as well as other aspects like relief & rehabilitation measures, social impact & environmental impact, financial sustainability of the project etc.
On 5th August, the KfW team, along with Mr. Joern L. Rohde, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Bangalore and Dr. Sayed Ibrahim, Kerala representative of the IGCC and Honorary Consul in Trivandrum would visit the Chief Minister, Mr. Oommen Chandy, Transport Minister, Mr. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, the Additional Chief Secretary (Finance), Member Secretary (Planning Board) and Member (Planning Board) in Trivandrum.
The Kerala State Planning Board has given its recommendations regarding the project, and it is expected that this would be approved by the Council of Ministers very shortly.
