Shri. Aryadan Mohammed, Minister for Power, will inaugurate the widening and the improvements of the Vyttila- Petta road from Kunnara Park to Petta on 2nd October 2015 at a function held near Thykkoodam KSEB sub station.
The function presided over by Shri. Benny Behanan, MLA, Shri. Ibrahim Kunju, Minister for Public Works will disburse the Rehabilitation and Resettlement package to some of the people whose land is being acquired for widening the road, and Shri. K Babu, Minister for Excise, Port and Fisheries will deliver the keynote address. Shri. K.V. Thomas, MP, Shri. Tony Chammani, Mayor, Shri. Hibi Eden, MLA, Shri. Dominic Presentation, MLA, Shri. Anwar Sadath, MLA, Shri. N. Venugopal, GCDA Chairman, Cochin Corporation and Councilors Smt. Sunitha Dixon, Dr. Sailaja & Mercy Teacher also attended the function.
The widening and the rebuilding of this road are necessary for commencing the work on the metro project from Vyttila to Petta. The road is proposed to widen from the present width to 26m, and the reconstructed road will have new facilities like utility ducts for carrying cables, electrical lines and pipelines. Separate drains and footpaths would also be part of the new reconstructed road.
The land acquired for the widening is being procured at a cost of Rs.104 crore, for which KMRL has taken a loan from the Ernakulam District Cooperative Bank. In addition, the widening and reconstruction of the first reach from Vyttila-Petta is being undertaken at a cost of Rs. 22.35 Crore. The widening work will be undertaken following the highest technical specifications stipulated by the MORTH (Ministry Of Road Transport and Highways). It is also proposed to widen and reconstruct the road from Petta to S.N. Junction in Tripunithura for which a proposal has been formulated by KMRL and approval is awaited from the Government of Kerala.
