Kochi Metro Rail (KMRL) received the first Metropolis train set of the 25 trains 5 months ahead of schedule from Alstom, the rolling stock manufactures for Kochi Metro. The order was placed in August 2014 and Alstom delivered the first train set in record time. Shri. Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister for Urban Development, Parliamentary Affairs, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation flagged off the first train set in the presence of Shri Aryadan Muhammed, Minister for Power & Railways, Kerala in an official ceremony held on this occasion at the Alstom’s Sricity facility where the metro was built. Shri, Varaprasad Rao Velagapalli, MP, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, Shri.K.V.Thomas, MP, Ernakulum, Kerala, Shri. Hibi Eden, MLA, Ernakulam, Dr. E. Sreedharan, Principal Advisor to DMRC, Shri. Elias George, Managing Director, Kochi Metro Rail Limited, Shri. Mangu Singh, Managing Director, DMRC, Shri. Mukund Kumar Sinha, OSD-UT, Ministry of Urban Development, Shri. Jean Francois Beaudoin, Deputy Senior Vice President, Alstom, APAC Region and Bharat Salhotra, Managing Director of Alstom India were also present on the occasion

Kochi metro sets a new benchmark in technological innovation and greener transportation for India urban transport market. This high efficiency trains use less energy when they accelerate and provide high regeneration during braking. In addition, the Communication based train control system drives the train at optimum energy-saving speed. Also, the system will include key features needed to upgrade in driverless mode in future but initially will be operated with drivers.


KMRL, in its effort make the Kochi Metro most modern and user friendly has provided unique experience and comfort in the Kochi Metro coach, differentiating it with any other metro system in India with the help of Alstom and Tata Elxsi

  • Two air conditioning units per car to provide thermal comfort to the commuters of Kochi city

  •   Different colour seats and grab handles for differentiating priority zones aligned with designated platform zone
