The Kochi Theruvulsavam (Raahgiri Day) got a royal welcome from the residents of Kochi. People from all sections of society stormed in for this event which set new standards by opening up the road for a plethora of activities ranging from Sports, Zumba Dance, Cycling, Kite Flying, Skating,Yoga, Aerobics, Basket Ball etc. It all started with a whopping inaugural function which was carried out by Honourable Disrtict Collector, M.G.Rajamanickam IAS and Actor, Nivin Pauly in the presence of other dignitaries like Elias George, MD, KMRL, Tery Phelan, Coach, Kerala Blasters and Pawan Mulukutla, Project Manager (India), WRA. The four-hour event (6:30 am to 10:30 am) organized on western side of Shanmukham Road was bristling with activities throughout. While the musical troupe kept the environment lively and entertaining, Kudumbasree team provided the participants with the morning breakfast as well as the refreshments and Chai Nation provided participants with Tea. Standing at the middle of road, unfazed and enjoying themselves to the hilt the public felt as they got the reins back on the roads which had threatened to elude pedestrians and other commoners courtesy a consistent outflow of heavy duty traffic.
Everyone breathed safe on the road for some time and the genuine feel of connecting with the city’s throbbing pulses was reignited. The air all through was vibrant and the public was rewarded with a Sunday morning that they had dreamt of.
The spirit remained high for the entire length and people from all age groups were present with their loved ones soaking in the excitement that has been laid down to them in a platter.
The event benefited the young as well as the old. For the young, it provided a great opportunity to show talents on roads as well as learn the tricks of trade from the experts whereas for the older generation it was redeeming to have a quiet and peaceful walks on the road that is free from the clutter of traffic. It was a day that had in store many such episodes of significance.
