Kochi Metro Rail Limited has crossed a major milestone in clearing the operational procedures of Kochi Metro. Research Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO) has issued the speed certificate for operation of standard gauge rail cars of Kochi Metro manufactured by M/s. Alstom Transport India Limited. RDSO has issued the speed certificate for the operation of Alstom made rail cars with air suspension arrangement at the secondary stage upto the maximum speed of 80 kmph over Kochi Metro’s standard gauge Rail network.
`It is a matter of great pride that the RDSO clearance has been obtained for the Kochi Metro Rail project without any hitch. Credit goes to the team of engineers of both KMRL and DMRC, who have worked together as one team to make this happen’, said Mr. Elias George, MD, KMRL.
Kochi Metro did its first trail run on 27thFebruary 2016. The RDSO inspection on speed trail were conducted between 28th September 2016 to 8th October 2016. This is one of the most important statutory approvals for the public operation of the Kochi Metro project. Now the next significant step would be obtaining the approval of the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). KMRL will now submit the application to CMRS for further inspection and clearance of the rolling stock by next week. The approval of GoI will be accorded based on the inspection and report of CMRS.
There are two types of approvals required from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety – clearance of rolling stock and the verification clearance of the entire system. The rolling stock has also to be approved by GoI for the opening of the metro rail for public carriage under the relevant rules. The inspection of the entire system is to be conducted just before the start of revenue operations, after completing the station work and all other related works which will also examine if all safety and security norms has been followed and maintained.
