Our vision is to build an integrated public transport system that enhances the quality of life for the citizens and along with that, we intend to do our bit to the society. That’s how we came up with certain ideas that will nurture our bonding with the society, and pave a better life for the kochiites. We planned the project by keeping in view the cultural heritage and commercial significance of the city. Apart from providing connectivity, the project will bring about a more equitable allocation of road space by encouraging greater use of public transport.

Here are some of our society-friendly initiatives.

  1. Uplifting the Transgender Community

Once operational, KMRL (Kochi Metro Rail Limited) will become the first metro system in the country to employ Transgenders for managing station operations along with Kudumbashree.

  1. Green Transport Initiatives

In a first of its kind initiative in the country, Kochi Metro Rail Limited is on the move to introduce feeder bicycles on every station for improving last mile connectivity.

  1. Women Empowerment Initiatives

Kochi Metro Rail system will have the largest women crew in any metro once it deploys members of Kudumbashree women self-help group for managing station operations.

  1. Zero Emissions Healthy Exercises

Kochi Metro Rail has prepared a non-motorised transport (#NMT) master plan for Kochi. The objective of this initiative is to provide safe, accessible and comfortable footpaths, improved conditions for cycling, bicycle parking facilities and urban renewal through place making. KMRL’s non-motorised transportation initiative came alive with ‘Street Scape’, the first ever bicycle track and walkway in Kerala at Panampilly Nagar, prompting people to make healthier travel choices.
