The 26th meeting of the Board of Directors of Kochi Metro Rail Ltd. was held in Delhi on 30th May 2017, under the chairmanship of Shri. Rajiv Gauba, Secretary, Urban Development and Chairman, Kochi Metro Rail Ltd.


The Board approved the proposal for engagement of General Consultant for Water Metro with an estimated project cost of Rs. 747 crore and envisages the creation of modern water transport infrastructure in the Greater Kochi region by inducting 78 state-of-the-art modern boats along 16 routes and traversing 38 boat jetties. M/s AECOM Consortium comprising M/s AECOM INDIA Pvt Ltd, M/s Urban Mass Transit Company Ltd and M/s Zebec Marine Consultants and Service Pvt Ltd emerged as the highest scoring bidder taking into consideration both the technical and financial scores. The consultancy fee would be Rs. 38,14,08,000


The board also approved extension of agreement with DMRC and payment of additional remuneration of Rs. 42.71 crore to them for execution of Kochi Metro Rail Project – Phase I


The agreement with DMRC for executing the Kochi Metro Rail Project is expiring on 31st May, 2017.The agreed remuneration was Rs. 241.8396 crore for a period of four years at 6% of the approved project cost (excluding land cost and DMRC remuneration).


There is a spill-over of Reach II works beyond 48 months for a period of approximately 30 months due to reasons such as delay in land acquisition, poor performance of the civil contractor resulting in termination and retendering and change in the design of railway crossing due to site conditions. DMRC had requested for an additional remuneration of Rs. 42.71 crore, to execute the remaining work during the extended period of the contract.


The board has also approved the appointment of two new members Smt. Nalini Netto and Shri Sharat Sharma in place of Shri. S.M. Vijayanand and Shri. Jitendra Tyagi respectively.
