Our new captain is here. KMRL is proud to announce that Shri. Alkesh Kumar Sharma IAS took charge as the new Managing Director of Kochi Metro on 27 September 2019, Friday. Shri. Sharma comes with a treasure trove of experience and had served as the CEO & MD of the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited (DMICDC) prior to his posting with us. He has also served as the CEO of the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT).
Shri. Sharma’s association with Kerala goes a long way. He has played an active role in the promotion of Kerala as ‘God’s Own Country’ for over seven years. Kerala won the Best Tourism State Award instituted by the Government of India, as well as several international awards, including the PATA, during his tenure. He has received several prestigious recognitions including the ‘Best CEO Award’ (twice) instituted by the Government of Kerala, the President’s Medal for Best District Census Officer and the ‘Best Performance Award’ by the Government of Kerala. A gold medallist in Agricultural Sciences with an MBA in Rural Management, Shri. Sharma secured his IAS in the year 1990 from the IAS Kerala Cadre.
Shri. Sharma will serve as the CEO of Smart City, Kochi, Principal Secretary of the Kochi-Bangalore Industrial Corridor, and CEO of the Cochin Smart Mission Ltd (CSML).
“We hope to make the Thykoodam-Petta stretch functional by February 2020. We will also strive to make Kochi Metro more eco-friendly and focus on sustainability,” Shri. Sharma was quoted saying, on asked about his future plans for the metro.
