Compared to its previous years, Kochi Metro has been witnessing a rise in ridership recently. Last month’s ridership data revealed facts in sync with the same.

Of late, there is an upward trend in the number of office-goers opting for the Metro instead of other means of public transport. The result of the same has been reflected in the rise in sales of Kochi1 card, as it has also enabled them to save on time and money. The increase in ridership was noticed to be above 75,000 on the ISL match days and on the flood-hit day. While the whole city was waterlogged and road transportation came to a complete standstill, people relied on Metro as a safe and faster mode of transport. On every match day, football fans came in large numbers and opted for the Metro due to its fast and timely services, parking facilities and extended hours of Metro service. KMRL is expecting a further rise in numbers in the coming days, with the reduction of the train headway, from seven minutes to six minutes during peak hours, and also with the launch of the Petta extension by the beginning of next year.

Indeed, Kochi has a lot to look forward to in 2020.
