Compared to its previous years, Kochi Metro has been witnessing a rise in ridership recently. Last month’s ridership data revealed facts in sync with the same.
Of late, there is
an upward trend in the number of office-goers opting for the Metro instead of
other means of public transport. The result of the same has been reflected in
the rise in sales of Kochi1 card, as it has also enabled them to save on time
and money. The increase in ridership was noticed to be above 75,000 on the ISL
match days and on the flood-hit day. While the whole city was waterlogged
and road transportation came to a complete standstill, people relied on
Metro as a safe and faster mode of transport. On every match day, football
fans came in large numbers and opted for the Metro due to its fast and
timely services, parking facilities and extended hours of Metro service. KMRL
is expecting a further rise in numbers in the coming days, with the
reduction of the train headway, from seven minutes to six minutes during peak
hours, and also with the launch of the Petta extension by the beginning of
