On 24th Jan 2020, the German Ambassador to India, Mr. Walter J Lindner, visited Kochi city and took a ride on Kochi Metro along with KMRL MD Mr. Alkesh Kumar Sharma. His excellency was presented with a Kochi1 card and a coffee table book. He also paid a visit to the Water Metro’s construction site at Vyttila and expressed his happiness after inspecting the site. Adding to it, he assured the officials of visiting Kochi later this year for the inauguration of Water Metro. He also mentioned his desire to attend the famous Kochi Biennale in December. His Excellency expressed confidence that the ambitious Water Metro project can be launched by the end of 2020. German development bank KfW has agreed to provide a loan of Rs 597 crore out of the Rs 797 crore integrated water transport project in Greater Kochi area. The Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the Water Metro Project will be decided soon and proposals have been submitted to the Government for the same. At present, jetties are under construction at a faster pace at Vyttila, Kakkanad, and Mattancherry.
